Medical Transports

If getting to doctors, specialists or hospital appointments is a physical problem, we train and support a team of caring, local volunteer drivers who can be booked for return medical transports. Minimum advance notice of 3 days essential. A small fee for service is requested. Assessment and referral of your needs will be undertaken by GREAT Community Transport prior to your first service being organised – telephone 02 4759 2403.

Blaxland Volunteer Home Visitors Service

The Blaxland Volunteer Home Visitors service is a social support service that aims to assist frail-older people and people with disabilities to remain living as independently as possible for as long as it is practical in their own homes, rather than having to move prematurely into institutional care.  It also provides support and access to respite for their carers.  The service covers the Lower Mountains areas of Lapstone, Glenbrook, Blaxland, Mount Riverview and Warrimoo.

A carefully selected and trained volunteer is matched with the client, taking into consideration the client's needs, abilities and personal interests.  The volunteer then visits weekly or fortnightly to provide one or more of the following services as agreed:

  • provide company and support by sharing a conversation
  • take the resident on local outings
  • assist with shopping
  • pick-up and return books to the local library
  • write and address mail
  • assist with other small errands as agreed.

The Volunteer Home Visitors service also provides information on other services available to frail-older people and people with disabilities and offers an advocacy and referral service.

To access this service or for more information, please contact the Co-ordinator -

- by phone  4739 8169 or 4739 1164

New Volunteers needed!

The VHV service always welcomes new volunteers.  As a Volunteer Home Visitor you have access to orientation, on-going support and training opportunities.  You will be part of a dedicated team of volunteers who enjoy sharing their time and skills to make a real difference to someone else.  Becoming a Volunteer Home Visitor is rewarding and simply a wonderful way of showing you care about the community you live in.

For an information and Volunteer application package, or for more information, please contact the Co-ordinator on the contact details above.

This program is funded by the NSW Department of Human Services through Ageing, Disability and Home Care under the Home and Community Care Program (HACC).
