Posted 2 December 2009 16 hrs pw SACS Award Grade 4 Year 1(MCRN above-award rates & employee tax benefits) The Blue Mountains Volunteer Home Visitors Service (Blaxland) is a Home & Community Care (HACC) Neighbour Aid Program supporting frail-aged people, people with disabilities and their carers. The service aims to assist people to remain living in their own homes for as long as possible. This position is based at the Lower Mountains Neighbourhood Centre at Blaxland and covers the Lapstone to Warrimoo area. The key areas of the position are the co-ordination, maintenance, development and promotion of the Volunteer Home Visitors service through the recruiting, matching, training and support of some 20 volunteers who provide home visits, information and appropriate support to meeting specific and individual client needs. Duties include: recruitment, training and support of volunteers; assessment, support and referral of HACC clients; administration, promotion, networking. Own vehicle with comprehensive insurance required. Ideal experience includes co-ordinating a community service; working with older people and volunteers; understanding needs of frail-aged people and their carers. Selection Criteria Essential § Ability to understand, assess and match the needs of the HACC client group and their carers § High-level written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with a range of people within our culturally diverse society and advocate on behalf of clients/their carers § Ability to work both independently and as part of a team § Ability to prioritise work tasks and exercise appropriate initiative § Competent computer skills, including the proficient use of Microsoft Office and email/Internet § Understanding of OH&S, duty of care and confidentiality issues § Comprehensively insured vehicle and driver’s license. Desirable: § Experience in successfully leading a team § Experience in co-ordinating a community service § Experience working with older people and providing appropriate training and support to volunteers § Understanding the needs of frail-aged people and their carers § Skills and experience in gathering service statistics, budget formulation, submission and report writing § Understanding of issues and factors affecting service provision within a culturally diverse society § Knowledge of Blue Mountains community services and networks for referral § Tertiary qualifications in Welfare, Health, Social Science or related fields.
