Current Volunteer Opportunities at the Lower Mountains Neighbourhood Centre

1.  Front Desk - half-day per week;  training provided.  ideally Wednesday afternoon or Thursday afternoon.

2.  Volunteer Home Visitors - see details under post of 16 June 2011 below.

3.  Shopping bus hosts:  we provide a fortnightly shopping bus service for Seniors, and two hosts travel with our clients to assist them with their shopping bags or any other assistance that they require.  An annual roster is devised so that you wouldn't be required every fortnight;  rather, once every month or two months.  Thursdays only.

4.  Medical transport drivers:  this is an occasional volunteer opportunity - we have a pool of drivers whom we contact for their availability to drive a client to their medical appointment.  Comprehensive insurance is required, and we reimburse you for your travel expenses.

Do you want to 'make a difference' in your local community? 

As part of our Volunteer Home Visitors service, volunteers are needed to provide regular social support to older people, people with disabilities and their carers living in the Lapstone to Warrimoo areas. 

All you need is a spare couple of hours per fortnight and a genuine desire to make a difference. 

Come and join our friendly team of volunteers and provide companionship, telephone chats, reading, letter writing, shopping and appointments. 

Training and ongoing support is provided.

The foundation of our work at the Lower Mountains Neighbourhood Centre is the number of volunteers who offer their experience and expertise to enable our services to take place. LMNC has some 50 currently active Volunteers across a number of service teams – we call them our best assets – they are an inspiration and shining examples of what neighbours and caring communities are all about.

Opportunities for LMNC volunteers include:

• BOARD MEMBERS – up to 10 local residents are elected annually to LMNC's governing body at the Annual General Meeting (generally October each year).

• NO INTEREST LOANS COMMITTEE - committee members assess and make decisions on low income earners’ loan applications for essential household items.

• FRONT DESK WORKERS - we have a team of 10 Front desk volunteers + 2 casual trainers who give out community information, handle all enquiries and take bookings for services, workshops and activities.

• NEW RESIDENT KIT OFFICER - this officer compiles helpful information kits for people new to area.

• NOW & THEN CLUB - grandparent interest and support for Euroka pre-schoolers.

Opportunities to assist older people who are frail, or people with a disability:

• MEDICAL TRANSPORT DRIVERS - round trips to doctors and hospitals.

• FORTNIGHTLY SHOPPING BUS DRIVERS & HELPERS -  for local shopping.

• CATERING OR TRANSPORT HELPERS  - to assist people who are isolated or need special assistance to attend LMNC social events

• BLAXLAND VOLUNTEER HOME VISITORS – practical and emotional support for people who are housebound, including a Home library service.
