The Lower Mountains Neighbourhood Centre (LMNC) is celebrating Neighbourhood Centre Week and National Volunteer Week in a combined event that will feature the internationally-acclaimed musicians Mara and Llew Kiek.

This celebratory event will be held on Wednesday 12 May, 10am to 12 noon at LMNC’s home at the Blaxland Community Complex, 33 Hope Street, Blaxland.  Mara and Llew Kiek will be presenting a concert of folk music from around the world before LMNC’s traditional morning tea and honouring of LMNC’s volunteers who provide such a wonderful service to the community.

‘We are privileged to have musicians of the calibre of Mara and Llew Kiek performing for us at our special event, not long before their performance with the Mara! Band in Springwood the following week’, said LMNC Manager, Peta Williams. ‘Mara and Llew have chosen especially to perform folk music from around the world, as folk music is music from the people in a community for each other. Folk music is all about connection - people connecting with each other through creating and performing music - and connection is what neighbourhood centres are all about.’  Children and adults are welcome to come in folk traditional dress, or bring something that represents a particular cultural tradition.

Call LMNC on 4739 1164 to book for this special Neighbourhood Centre Week event.
